How do you file a business extension?

To file a business extension, follow these steps:

Form 7004:

• Who Uses It: Partnerships, multi-member LLCs, and corporations.
• How to File: You can e-file through the IRS Modernized e-file (MeF) platform, TurboTax or mail it to the IRS.

Form 4868: 

• Who Uses It: Sole proprietors and single-member LLCs.
• How to File: Beginning in March, you can file your extension at our Easy Extension website, or. or mail it to the IRS

Steps to File form 7004 Business Extension in TurboTax Online

1. Log in to TurboTax Business Open your return:
   1. Select Search and enter "extend".
   2. Select Jump to extend.
   3. Select Extension of time to file (Form 7004) and Continue:

• Follow the instructions to prepare and print your 7004 form. This form cannot be e-filed. TurboTax will provide the mailing address and any payment instructions.
