How to file an extension on turbotax before expat auto extension deadline

Expats receive automatic two month extension until June 15. How can I file for an additional extension on Turbotax before June 15 deadline?  The extension option does not seem available for 2016.  Thank you.

You can't do it electronically.

To obtain the extension for a June 15 filing, mail your return and attach a written statement requesting the overseas extension.  If you e-file, there is no way to request the extension and your return will be counted as late.

You can also request an extension to October 15 (the 2 month overseas extension plus 4 months more) using form 4868.  But, this form can only be filed electronically before the April deadline.  Now, to use the 2 month plus 4 month extension, you would have to print and mail form 4868 along with your written statement that you are an overseas taxpayer and requesting the 2 month plus 4 month extension, and get the form and letter mailed before June 15.  

Use a mailing or delivery service that provides proof of mailing and a tracking number.

Can I file for an extension via this link <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://turbotax.intuit.com/irs-tax-extensions/">https://turbotax.intuit.com/irs-tax-extensions/</a> and select I am military personnel even though I am an expat? It seems once I select 'Yes' I am military, the process takes me though a general extension request.

I don't know.  My impression from other customers is that the electronic extension doesn't work after April 18.  I haven't used it for your situation of course.  The IRS instructions for the 2 month extension say to attach a written statement and do not mention electronic filing.
