I have the desktop version of Home and Business 2025. I have over (10) 1099-NEC forms, and thus need to e-file. I have entered all of the necessary data for the forms and have completed the interview, audit check, etc. The program allows me print and save the PDFs of the forms, but there is no option to e-file. E-file options on the File menu are greyed-out.
How do I e-file these forms? The software says it allows up to 5 free e-files for businesses.
Thanks

The efile option should be available to you. Why that button is grayed out is a mystery and one you need solved by Friday.
First, try to clear your cache and cookies. That hangs up weird stuff sometimes.
Here's how to clear your cache.

If that doesn't do it you need to contact TurboTax support and make certain your account is square.

Thanks, but I'm using the desktop version. There hasn't been a need to open a browser. Thus, I don't understand what cookies and cache have to do with the issue.
You can do them 2 different ways from the Windows Desktop Home & Business program. Either Online using Quick Employer Forms (QEF) -or- directly on your computer using Create forms on Desktop. If you use Create Forms on your Desktop you have to mail them to the IRS and not efile.
In the Window's Home & Business Desktop program to Prepare W2s or 1099s, there are 2 ways to start.
1. Go up to File - Create 1099/W-2
2. On the beginning screen that has the Continue box and Start a New Return blue button, below is the Create 1099/W-2 button.
Then you will get a box to Create employer forms using Quick Employer Forms OR you can pick Create forms on Desktop at the bottom. If you use Create Forms on your Desktop you have to mail them to the IRS and not efile. So if you want to efile them you have to start over in the online QEF Quick Employer Forms version.
Did you get this box when you started?
