As long as Schedule C is not populating, you should not have depreciation expense pulling onto your 1040 anymore (unless you have some from Rental Real Estate on Schedule E, or otherwise).
You may also check your Schedule SE (Self-Employment Tax) Line 2 does not include business income or loss; otherwise, confirm that no Schedule SE is being populated in the return.
Can I check to see if these are populating while I am in the process of working on my taxes? How to check for this? Thanks.
Yes.
To see your forms:
To print or view your forms, including all worksheets:
If you see something, the program may be holding on to information. Go into your depreciation schedule and enter that you converted all your items to personal use on 1/1/25 (or whatever date you stopped using the items in 2025). Then verify the rest of your Sch C is blank or correct.
Thanks AmyC.
I will look for those items.
May I confirm, should I also see a tax form 4797 that reports the conversion of my car from business/personal to 100% personal use?
What tax form should I see that shows I am removing my Home Office permanently?
Thanks for your patience!
No, you will not see a Form 4797 if you converted your business auto to personal use. You would only see that form if you sold the vehicle. Form 8829 would be where your home office deduction would be. You can attempt to delete that form to see if it is still in your program by following these steps:
1. Choose the Tax Tools option on your left menu bar while working on your return
2. Choose Tools
3. Choose the Delete a form option under Other Helpful links
Thanks, Thomas.
I have no income or expenses for 2025. I have answered TT questions and stated that I stopped using home office on 1/1 2025 and am converting my auto to personal on 1/1/2025. I have not seen a box on TT, that I should check, stating I am officially closing this business.
Will any forms be populated, that I should check for, regarding closing this business?
You don't have to do anything on your tax return with regards to showing the business was shut down. You can simply stop filing the Schedule C.
If you update your business profile, which you will see when you enter the business section, there is an option on the screen that says Lets confirm your business info that says Disposed of Business. You can use that option to indicate the business has been disposed of. Once you do that, if the business has no income or expenses you should be able to delete it if the schedule C still shows in your program.
