I cashed out an IRA left to me from my mom. I took the full amount as a death distribution and the bank withheld Federal tax on it. The bank did send me a letter showing the amounts and stated the IRS was informed. I have NOT received a 1099 for this. How can I enter this into TurboTax?
Thanks!

The bank has today to send you the 1099-R, so please wait a little while.
You have to get a 1099R for it. Maybe it will still come or ask them again. Does the letter say 1099R anywhere on it? Does it have all the other info like name, ssn, box numbers especially a box 7 code?
VolvoGirl, thanks for replying. The letter does not mention anything about a 1099R form. It simply says "This information is being furnished to the Internal Revenue Service". It then gives the breakdown of Fair Market Value, Interest Paid, Death Distribution and Federal Withholding.
I'm thinking like you, that they will still send it. Thanks again.
Give the bank a call to ask if it's going to send you a 1099-R form.
Here is how to enter Form 1099-R:
It sounds like a 1099-R but not in the proper format (boo on them).
Distribution due to Death = Distribution code 4.
With that number 4 for distribution code you can file with the information you have
BUT
TurboTax will insist on a Payer's TIN and address.
Note: interest is not reported on a 1099-R.
