The fee for using TurboTax is based on which version of the software you use to enter your information. Only very simple returns that require only a Form 1040 can be prepared using the Free Edition. But you say you have "stocks"---which may mean you need to use online Premium software.

What about stocks? Did you have sales or are they in your IRA account? For investment sales you need Online premium.
