how long after can you amend a return using e-file? I tried for 2024 and turbo tax deluxe wouldn't let me.

Subject says it all. I tried to amend my 2024 returns and it eventually said "e filing amendments closed in november 15th 2025" i think it said. and i pressed continue and it took me to the transmit returns screen eventually, i clicked it to efile and it threw an error saying it was too late to efile

i've heard you can e file the previous 2 years and amend it ( and i've read it ) - which is contrary to my experience with turbo tax

why wouldn't turbo tax let me? and how long after you file can you generally use e file to amend returns?

( for 2024 i gave up and mailed my amendment in )

you can’t efile a 2024 return after December 15, 2025 through TurboTax. Other software may have different policies.

I just ran into this today (April 12, 2026) to amend 2024. IRS allows amendments electronically for 3 years. What is worse is that New York does not allow paper filings or amendments! So how am I supposed to file an amended NY State return if Turbo Tax doesn't support efile?!?!?!

While NYS encourages efiling it will accept a mailed amended return.
