Note that the IRS generally retains tax returns (Form 1040) for 7 years from filing before they are destroyed by law.
A tax professional may be able, with your permission, to obtain IRS tax return transcripts for older years. The IRS does retain transcripts longer than 7 years, but they are not available in the taxpayer's online IRS account.
A transcript is not an actual copy of your tax return. It lists the information from your tax return, but it is not in the format of the actual forms.
