I'll tell you in a comment to follow this one how to see if you might even be eligible for the Free Edition, and if so, how to downgrade.   If you think you are eligible, then do not pay for your current product, or you won't be able to downgrade.

If you're not eligible to downgrade to Free Edition, then to answer your question on how to remove Premium Services:

If you are a California filer and chose to pay the TurboTax fees out of your Federal refund, that will add Premium Services for an additional 44.99 fee.   You can avoid that extra fee by removing that pay-out-of-refund option and paying upfront with credit or debit card.    Premium Services also includes other benefits, such as Audit Defense, identity theft monitoring, etc.

If you haven't completed your order and haven't used the Premium Services, here's how to remove it:

Also see my next comment below to see if you might be eligible for Free Edition, and if so, how to downgrade.   If you think you are eligible to downgrade, then do not pay for your current product, or you won't be able to downgrade.

Did you start in Free Edition and entered something that made you upgrade to Deluxe?   If you don't have anything that requires Deluxe, you "might" be able to downgrade to use Free Edition.    Was your bank interest less than $1500 (more than that requires Schedule B, which is not in Free Edition.) ?   See the additional criteria below.

If you think you can use Free Edition, then see this FAQ on how to downgrade:

Free Edition for simple tax returns:

Examples of situations included in a simple Form 1040 return (assuming no added tax complexity):

  • W-2 income
  • Interest, dividends or original issue discounts (1099-INT/1099-DIV/1099-OID) that don’t require filing a Schedule B
  • IRS standard deduction
  • Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
  • Child Tax Credit (CTC)
  • Student loan interest deduction
  • Taxable qualified retirement plan distributions

Examples of situations not included in a simple Form 1040 return:

  • Itemized deductions claimed on Schedule A, like charitable contributions, medical expenses, mortgage interest and state and local tax deductions
  • Unemployment income reported on a 1099-G
  • Business or 1099-NEC income (often reported by those who are self-employed, gig workers or freelancers)
  • Stock sales (including crypto investments)
  • Income from rental property or property sales
  • Credits, deductions and income reported on other forms or schedules
