how do you get the program to use itemized deductions instead of the standard deduction for an individual filing married filling separately because their spouse is itemizing deductions on their return

At the very bottom of the Deductions and Credits section, if you click Done with deductions and then click through the next couple of screens, you will come to a screen that asks you if you'd like to take the Itemized or Standard Deduction (see screenshot below). It's right after the screen that says Here are your 2018 Deductions and Credits.
