How do you file federal return without doing state return? I have no option but to proceed with my state return.

No one is forcing you to prepare or file a state return.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to permanently delete the state return.  I can use the delete function, but I cannot proceed without first recreating the state return.

@rmarolf If you have completed the federal tax return and gone through the Federal Review and you have deleted the state tax return, then click on Review on the left side of the program screen.  Once you complete the Review section you will automatically go to the File section.  The only tax return that can be e-filed is the federal return.
