How do I update from the 2016 Premier edition to the 2017 edition?

"Update"?  You cannot update the 2016 software to prepare a 2017 return if that is what you mean.  The software is new for each tax year and new software must be purchased each year.  

Or do you mean how to transfer your 2016 information in to your 2017 software when you begin preparing your 2017 return?
