Gambling winnings are taxable income. Losses are an itemized deduction. If you do not have enough itemized deductions to exceed your standard deduction, your losses will have no effect.

Your itemized deduction for gambling losses cannot be more than your gambling winnings.
Under the new tax law that was recently passed, starting in 2026 the itemized deduction for gambling losses is also limited to 90% of your actual losses.
