How do I know my taxes were submitted?

I efiled my federal taxes for the first time this year, from the desktop version of TurboTax.  I submitted them to TurboTax on Sunday April 12, to be filed on April 15, but I haven't gotten  any confirmation that they were actually filed. Shouldn't I have heard something by now? Today is April 18.

The bank information and the date selected for payment will be on the Filing Instructions for your tax return and it will be on the Federal Information Worksheet in Part V of the worksheet.  Go to Forms

Your date of payment stays valid.  It may take the IRS up to 10 days to debit your account during this time of the tax season.

• Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 888-353-4537 to inquire about or cancel your payment, but please wait 7 to 10 days after your return was accepted before calling.

Or are you also asking if your return was Accepted?  When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile. Check back though your emails and spam/junk folder.

For the Desktop program you have to check the filing status inside the program. Open your return and go up to menu item

File > Electronic Filing > Check Electronic Filing Status
