Generally, health insurance purchased on the healthcare.gov website qualifies as marketplace health insurance. You know if you have a marketplace (ObamaCare) health insurance plan because you personally purchased it on the healthcare.gov website.
- If you're an employee and you have health insurance through your work, you don't have a marketplace plan
- You wouldn't get a 1095-A form. You'd most likely get a 1095-B or 1095-C forms. These last two forms don't have to be entered in TurboTax. Just keep them for your records.
While a marketplace may also be referred to as a health insurance exchange, each state that is running its own exchange independently or in partnership with the federal program has its own name. Here are a few state marketplace names:
- Covered California
- Health Idaho
- Nevada Health Link
- Vermont Health Connect
- Washington Healthplanfinder
