You have to manually click on the Transmit my returns now or Transmit Returns Now button in order to e-file your return. If you didn't click that, you have not e-filed. And you can check here e-file status lookup tool to check your e-file status to see if you e-filed or not. If nothing there, you have not e-filed.
Ready to mail means you chose to file your return by mail instead of e-file it. Printed just means you printed it already or the since you chose File by mail, the system thinks you have printed and mailed it already.

You'll need to click on either Switch to e-file in TurboTax Online or Switch to e-file in CD/Download to get the steps to change this back.
