How do I get TurboTax to open without installing updates as I need my original return open?

Are you on Windows or Mac?  You can change the Windows preferences to ask you first if you want to update.  Otherwise I guess you could disconnect from the internet before opening the program.

I'm on a Mac. It won't open TurboTax so that I can get to my preferences.

On a MAC you cannot shut off the updates ... so disconnect from the internet before you try to open the program.
