How do I get the difference if I take out my 2 siblings as dependents and my mom who is on ssi and my sister who is 28 on ssdi ?

I claim. My 2 children and my siblings who are. 10 and 9 yrs old and my mom who is on ssi and my sister is disabled on ssdi . I claim them all every year I just want to know how I can remove them to see what i would just get back with my own 2 children versus all of them

You would go into the Personal Info section and click the trash can next to their names to delete them.

If you otherwise qualify, your 2 siblings who are 9 and 10 may qualify as Qualifying Children for the $2,000  Child Tax Credit and your mom and 28 year old sister would possibly Qualify as a Qualifying Relatives for the  $500 Other Dependent Credit if you have enough tax liability as this is a nonrefundable credit

To claim someone as a Qualifying Relative, they must be:

  • Your child ( including step children, adoptive children and foster children) or a descendent of them
  • Your sibling (including half siblings) or a child of your sibling or a sibling-in-law
  • Your parent or grandparents, including step parents and in laws
  • Any other person that lived with you for the entire tax year
  • Not a qualifying child of another taxpayer
  • Someone that you provided over half of their support for during the tax year

The following criteria must be met to claim someone as a qualifying child:

  • Your child (including adopted and foster children), your sibling, or a descendent of any of them.
  • Age 18 or younger at the end of the tax year OR under 24 (and younger than you and your spouse) if they are a full-time student
  • Lived with you for more than 6 months during the tax year
  • They did not provide more than half of their own support (social security does not count)
  • They did not file a joint return, unless it was to claim a refund

You can still claim her as a dependent if you meet the qualifications of the test for a qualifying relative per Table 5 from IRS Publication 501 at this link.  You must have provided more than half of her support.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is not taxable and therefore not considered gross income. Gross income is all income in the form of money, property, and services that isn't exempt from tax.

See here for more information from the Social Security Administration on SSI. The Gross Income of an adult SSI recipient could affect SSI benefits but not support received from a relative.
