Assuming you cannot be claimed as a tax dependent of someone else, you get a 2016 personal exemption of $4,050. This is a subtraction from your income, before the taxes are calculated. It is not a tax credit or a refund. In any case, you also get a Standard deduction of up to $6300 (Single), also a subtraction from your income.
You may also qualify for one or more tax credits. Look at your actual tax return.
