How do I get my state refund and then use it to help pay for federal

The state will not pay your federal tax due using your state refund.   You can e-file them at the same time and tell the software that you will mail a check to pay the federal tax due.  Then when you receive the state refund from the state, use it to pay the federal tax due-----if you get your state refund back before the April 15 deadline.
