You cannot e-file the 2020 return, so choose file by mail in the File section. You have to print, sign and mail the 2020 return.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
If you used the Desktop program your return is only on your computer. Did you buy and install the Desktop program? Just run or launch the program and your return should open in it. Or go to File-Open. Are you on Windows or Mac?
Or I have a feeling you might have bought the Desktop program but ended up using the Online version instead by mistake. When you filled out your return did you go online and log in? Was there a black menu bar down the left side? Or a blue menu bar across the top?
