I forget to include my Solar Tax Credit (Energy-Saving Improvements) in last year tax return (2021), system was installed in 2021.
Can I file the credit in TurboTax this year (for tax year 2022) for that?
However, when I do that, TurboTax shows 2022 tax credit for 2022 installation and gives 30% credit. (where for 2021 installation it should be 26% only).
Can I make Turbotax this year (for tax-return 2022) to provide the correct credit (or specifying it was 2021 installation?)
Or, I must file amendment for 2021 tax-return for that Energy-Saving Improvement credit?
Thanks very much.

When I start a new 2022 filing, I should choose the new Amend-2021 computer-file to continue [Transfer Return], correct? not the original one without solar credit...right? RIGHT ... and the fact that the amended return will take 6 months to a year to process should have no affect on the 2022 return.
No, you cannot enter the 2021 solar installation on your 2022 but if you have a carryover from 2021 then this will be entered on your 2022 tax return.
Yes, you will have to amend your 2021 tax to enter the solar installation. Please see How to amend a tax return for instructions. Please see Where's My Amended Return? to check the status of your amended return.
Please follow these steps to enter the carryover on your 2022 tax return (if applicable) :
Please see Federal Tax Credit for Residential Solar Energy for additional information!
Thanks DanaB27 for the detail reply.
Couple more questions:
1. I will file amendment for 2021 to include solar installation credit and I understand that I can only mail-in (e-file period ended for yr-2021).
I will have new TurboTax (Amend) computer-file, along with original turbotax file(computer-file) in 2021 that I filed originally.
When I start a new 2022 filing, I should choose the new Amend-2021 computer-file to continue [Transfer Return], correct? not the original one without solar credit...right?
2. If 2021-Amend shows carry-over (i.e. 5695 line 16), still enter that in 2022 filing? e-filing may see conflict (since 5695 does not exist in their system yet, likely)?
Even I have mailed in 2021-Amend soon enough, IRS would possibly not process my amendment in time when my 2022 filing be processed (I will do e-file).
In regards of what to enter in 2021-carry-over for my 2022 filing, whatever my 2021-Amend turned out (i.e. 5695 line 16) in my 2021-Amend that shown by TurboTax, I shall put that into my 2022 filing, correct? Even they have not yet processed my 2021-Amend, likely, by the time the 2022-efile got processed.
Not sure if this can be a conflict and becomes "flagged" (e.g. trigger auditing).
Thanks very much
