How do I determine if non-covered securities transactions are short-term or long-term

If there is no indication on your 1099-B from the brokerage account, then you will need to determine that from your own records showing when the security was purchased.

If you have held it for less than one year on the date of the sale, then it is short-term.  Long-term is held for one year or longer.
