How do I completely delete all the info that was automatically entered in TurboTax Online when I mistakenly imported the wrong person's tax file?

I had two different 2024 tax files on my desktop and mistakenly grabbed my daughter's when logged in to TurboTax online. Now, even though I've done the process of "Clear and start over" that every online posting says to do, TurboTax Online still thinks I am my daughter and has all of the data from her last year's taxes populated every time I log in.

You can Clear and Start Over to remove all of the 2024 information.

 

 Sign into TurboTax.

  1. You may have to bring up the additional options on the left sidebar
    1. On the center panel select Personal Info [Continue]
    2. This will bring up additional options on the left sidebar.
  2. On the left sidebar at the bottom
  3. Select the Switch Products drop down arrow.
  4. Click Clear and start over.

Ummm, did you not read that I already tried that?  You literally told me to do the process I already did which did NOT solve the problem and which prompted me to ask my question.  It does NOT delete everything as if you’ve never imported data before.  It still thinks I’m my daughter with all of her info every time I log in saying, “Hello <Daughter’s Name>” and asks me if I still work for the same company and have the same info as last year.  🤬

Did you use the Desktop version last year, and you're using the Online version this year.  

  • In that case leave you daughter's information alone. you can use it to do her tax return if you wish. (There's no charge if you choose not to.)
  • Open a new account with a different User ID for yourself, and download the proper file for you.

If you did use the Online version last year, you must have used a different User ID to get into it.

 

If you are using the Online version of TurboTax you will need to setup a new account using a new User ID.

 

To set up a new TurboTax Online account

  1. Go to the TurboTax website
  2. Click "Sign Up," and enter 
    1. Your email, 
    2. Phone number, and a 
    3. Secure password. 
  3. Verify your account via the code sent to your email or phone, 
  4. Then complete the initial setup questionnaire. 

You must use a unique user ID and email if creating a second account
