You have to have a qualifying person as a dependent to be eligible for Head of Household.  If you do not have a dependent you will remain Single.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for head of household - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-filing-status/qualify-head-household...

How do I change from single to head of household in previous years

Thank you. I do have a child (sole custody for the past 10 years) but turbo tax has put me as single for previous years. I wanted to change that. I did try the amended return but there was no place to change my status. I went through the entire filing again, but still came up as single although I always claim him. Not sure what I'm doing wrong...I do appreciate your help.

You will need to first set up your return as an amended return.

Then you'll need to go back through your personal information screens and answer the question. To qualify for head of household status, you have to have paid more than half of the costs of keeping up your home (rent, utilities, groceries) out of pocket. TurboTax will ask if you paid more than half of the costs. If you did, make sure you say yes to this question.
