How come there is a charge , i thought it was free?

There is a version that offers free federal filing, however it will not work for everyone-only those with very simple tax situations. If you begin with the free version and the program determines that it will not work for you, you are automatically upgraded to deluxe. If you believe you may have started with a paid version in error, you can clear your return and start over as long as you have not yet paid. See below.
