Where did you see Jan 9?
When I tried to file since the beginning of Jan TT kept saying the irs won't start accepting until the 9th.
I saw Jan 9th as well.
We do not know where you saw -- or think you saw -- January 9 to e-file.
You cannot e-file yet. E-filing has not opened. The IRS will not begin to accept e-files until the end of January. If TurboTax opens e-filing sooner, all that will happen with your return is that it will go to sit on a server for a few weeks until the IRS opens.
When you rush to file too soon you risk making mistakes that will put your return under review or that will require you to amend later. Those situations can take months to sort out.
And...if you are in a hurry because you are getting child tax credit or earned income credit, the IRS will hold your refund until mid-February because of the PATH act. Every year we see people who rush to file and live to regret their haste. Check the forum a few days after the first filing frenzy to read the posts from people who forgot W-2’s, forgot to enter dependents, forgot to enter Social Security, forgot a 1099 would be coming……and they want to know how to fix their returns—or stop them from going to the IRS.
I think it's the other way around Turborax has opened e-filing but the IRS has not. If you e-file the return it will sit on its servers until the IRS opens up. As some have found rushing is a mistake. They get a late 1099/w-2 or another tax form and can do nothing until the IRS rejects their return.
I filed mine on the 9th
@kpouncey TurboTax began allowing users to e-file a couple of days ago...But the IRS is not going to begin accepting or processing e-files until January 27, except for a handful of "early" test case e-files. So, your return is just going to sit on a server in pending.
MY RETURN IS IN PENDING—what does that mean?
Did you e-file? Did you click that big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?” If so, your return is now in “pending” on a server. Do not try to change anything while your return is in pending. On January 27 the IRS will begin to accept/reject e-files. Watch your emails—including your spam folder—for the notice about whether your e-file has been accepted or rejected. If your return is rejected you will be able to make corrections before re-filing. If the return you e-filed is accepted you will have to wait until it has been fully processed and then amend it to fix any mistakes or omissions. It has been taking the IRS four to six months—sometimes longer—to process amended returns. If you e-filed your state return there will be another email later that tells you if the state was accepted or rejected.
WARNING: Do not try to change anything on your return while it is pending.
I filed Jan 9 on Turbo tax and it is pending
Although the IRS has not yet begun accepting e-filed tax returns, TurboTax securely holds your completed taxes, and transmits them to the IRS and the state when they open for e-file.
Therefore, my taxes are waiting in cue for IRS to process. Hence, I am ahead inline.

Pending means that your e-filed return is on its way and that the government hasn't accepted or rejected it yet.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for Pending - Pending means that your e-filed return is on its way and that the government hasn't accepted or rejected it yet.
@collieney Yes---did you read the reply directly above your own post? Your e-file will be in pending until the IRS starts to accept/reject e-files on January 29,
.
The Irs has started accepting or rejecting returns as mine got accepted today...They have made some changes to help the taxes get processed faster ..Have a good day everyone🙂
The IRS accepted my 2024 tax returns yesterday. But per Turbo Tax, they won't issues any advanced until January 27th. So something don't sound right.
