How can we claim our son's college loan expenses that we pay for, but he isn't our dependent anymore

You can only take the student loan interest deduction if you repaid AND you are legally obligated to pay the interest on the loan (as the borrower or a co-signer).

 

Please read this IRS document for more information.

 

If you can eligible to claim the deduction, you can follow the instructions in this TurboTax Help article to enter form 1098-E on your tax return.
