How can we check the box on 1040: "Check here if your main home, and your spouse’s if filing a joint return, was in the U.S. for more than half of 2025"?

Filing single status and entered my US address but turbotax does not check this box on the 1040 (first page). How can we make the software check this box?

Come on Turbo Tax: answer this question!   I want to file today and I'm afraid my return will be rejected or held up if this box is not checked!!

The check box on the 1040 for "your home being in the United States" is specifically for the Earned Income Credit.

  • The box can only be checked if you qualify for the Earned Income Credit.
  • There are significant age, income and possibly child requirements.
  • If the box is not checked, it will not affect your tax return.

People want to check this box as documentation for their residency requirements. Given the current administration this is very important.
