I am using TurboTax Deluxe 2025, downloaded Windows version. TurboTax is making extraneous $0 entries for home mortgage interest in multiple fields on my return. I paid off my mortgage several years ago and did not make any entries in TurboTax related to home mortgage interest while preparing my 2025 return. Is there any way to get TurboTax to leave the fields related to home mortgage interest blank, as it did on my returns for previous years?
TurboTax is making the extraneous $0 entries on two forms that would be part of my filed return: Schedule A (Itemized Deductions), lines 8a, 8e, and 10; and Form 1116 (Foreign Tax Credit), line 4a. TurboTax is also making related extraneous $0 entries on two worksheets that support these two forms: the Tax and Interest Deduction Worksheet, line 5e, and the Foreign Tax Credit Computation Worksheet, lines 4a and 4a(1). I have filed Form 1116 as part of my returns for many years, and my 2025 return is the first return where TurboTax has entered an extraneous $0 for home mortgage interest on that form. Because my 2025 return is the first that has included Schedule A since I paid off my mortgage, I don't know whether TurboTax would have entered an extraneous $0 for home mortgage interest on Schedule A on any earlier returns.

To clarify, did you have mortgage interest to report on the Schedule A when you entered the information under deductions and credits?
I had no mortgage loan and no mortgage interest of any kind to report, either for my primary home or for any other property. I made no entries in TurboTax related to any mortgage loan or any deduction for mortgage interest.
I haven't noticed this before but it doesn't seem to be effecting anything else. The zeroes are there in my program this year as well. They aren't effecting your ability to file or anything, correct? Because they are just there for me.
I doubt the extraneous $0 entries will be an obstacle to e-filing, but I don't know for sure because I haven't tried to file my 2025 return yet.
My guess is that the extraneous $0 entries related to home mortgage interest are the result of a programming error that occurred during development of the 2025 program. When I first downloaded the 2025 program, it was also creating similar extraneous $0 entries relating to investment interest. The extraneous $0 entries relating to investment interest were more annoying, because they caused TurboTax to insist on collecting additional data on the Foreign Tax Credit Worksheet in order to allocate the $0 investment interest expense between US investment income and foreign investment income. The investment interest issue was fixed in a subsequent TurboTax program update, but the home mortgage interest issue hasn't been fixed.
