How can I file for free being Active Duty Military? My total fee at the end is still $89 and my W-2 is clearly from DFAS

In the My Info section of the program did you select that you were US military?  On the screen Let's check for some other situations you needed to select Yes for Were you a member or former member of the US Armed Forces (active, reserve, or National Guard) in 2025? Then entered your military status, then rank (must be enlisted), whether you were in a combat zone, and finally where you were stationed.

After entry of the W-2 you need to select Yes that this W-2 was for active duty military

If you used the TurboTax online Free edition, the Deluxe edition or the Premium edition there would not be a charge for using TurboTax.  In the File section of the program on Step 1 your Total charge is $0

If you selected one of the Live online editions, those are not free for military.

In the My Info section of the program indicate that you are active military.  You must enter a Military W-2 in the Wages & Income section and after completing the W-2 on the screen labeled Let's check for uncommon situations you will need to check the box Active military duty
