During this process, the program should've asked you for a date you wanted the payment to be debited -- that will be the date the IRS processes the payment. You should look at the printed PDF copy of your extension (Form 4868), and check the cover sheet for the date of your payment. Instructions:
TurboTax Online
- Open or continue your return.
- Select Continue or Start on Tax Home to enter your return.
- Select Tax Tools from the menu.
- Select Print Center, choose Print, save, or preview this year's return, and follow the instructions.
If you haven't yet paid your TurboTax Online fee (or registered, if you're using a free version), you'll need to do so before you can save the PDF.
TurboTax Desktop
- Open or continue your return.
- Select File.
- Select Print/Save for Your Records.
- Choose to either Save As PDF or Preview Print Copy.
Hello,
Thank you for your notes.
I haven't paid for Turbotax yet because I need to wait for several months before I can file my tax. If I proceed to continue and pay, my tax return will be filed right away - is this right?
I went to "Print center" under Tax tools and "Tax returns and docs" under Home, but there is no PDF with instruction sheet that provide information on any scheduled payment. I could download the form 4868, but there is no information on scheduled payment in the form.
Thank you.
If you continue and pay, no, you will not be required to file right away, but will be able to print all your documents.
Hi, This solution isn't working for me to view my extension -- the system is re-routing me to input all my federal return information before I can view the PDF of the extension where the replier said I could view the scheduled payment. Are there other ways to view the scheduled payment that do not involve submitting the rest of my return?
If you haven't submitted your return, any payments you scheduled through TurboTax have not been scheduled yet. If you schedule payments when preparing your return those are finalized when you actually file.
This doesn't really answer my question.
My question was pertaining to an e-file of an extension. For me, it was initially submitted along with a scheduled payment, then rejected (on Saturday). So I went back into TurboTax to correct and resubmit it (on Sunday). The confirmation of submission page on Sunday reiterated the payment scheduled date (scheduled for Monday). My e-filed extension was then accepted later on Sunday; however, that payment was not deducted on Monday. I would like to review whether that payment schedule was effectively completed, since I did not see the deduction on the date for which it was scheduled.
Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 1-888-353-4537 to inquire about your payment.
It might be easiest to set up an account with them.

Thank you. After proceeding to pay turbotax, I can see the payment is scheduled.
