Should a high school student claimed as a dependent on his parent's return pay taxes on DoorDash 1099 income of $964?
When I prepared his return including schedule C, it says he owed over $100 of income taxes.
I thought that high school students were'nt taxed on income levels below a much higher figure than $964.
Thanks for your help.

Sorry--even $400 of self-employment income (because that is what the DoorDash income is) is subject to self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare. His age is not a factor.
