Hi - My roommate has Premier and one of his state filing fees was covered by TurboTax. Why am I paying for Premier AND two state filing fees?

Desktop Premier comes with an included state program (which is downloaded), which can be used to prepare multiple state returns of that one state.   Additional state programs (i.e., a different state) are 44.99 each.

There is a 24.99 state efile fee for each state return that is efiled, except no fee for New York state.  There is no fee if you choose to print, sign, and mail the state returns.

So what exactly were you charged for?

Also be aware that you save money by paying upfront with credit/debit card.  If you choose to pay any fees out of your Federal refund, there is an addtional 39.99 service fee (44.99 for California filers.)

I paid upfront with credit card. TurboTax essentially forced me to buy Premier as I was filling out my return, which is fine because I probably needed it anyways, but never gave me the option use the "included state program" that you mentioned. I paid 180 total for Premier + CA + NY

My answer above was for desktop Premier (CD/download).
As Kat mentioned, what exact product did you use?   The Online version or desktop software?    Online products are very different from the answer I gave above.

I'm not super familiar with the different products but pretty sure I used online, not desktop.

If you used the website through a browser, that is Online TurboTax.  I'm sorry my first comment above for desktop software caused  confusion.  Please disregard my entire first comment above.  It does not apply to Online TurboTax.

In Online Premier, the fees are:
Federal return  79.99
Each state return 44.99  
Plus possible sales tax

So that would be 169.97 plus possible sales taxes.
