Hi, In 2015, we filed tax return as "married filing jointly" both as resident alien. I do not have income in 2016; my souse has. What should our return type in 2016 be?

I am a PhD student(F1), my spouse worked on H1B in 2016. I did not have any income in 2016. But we have been filing "jointly" for the last couple of years as resident alien.

So, for 2016, what should be the updates/change in my situation?

N.B. I use TurboTax for my filing.

Thanks.

You can still file jointly if you are both resident aliens, even if only one of you has income.  Joint filing almost always results in lower tax owed or a higher refund.

Thanks! Should there be any other change/update helpful?

Not really.  As long as you are both resident aliens and have your ITINs, just run through the program and answer the questions for your tax situations this year.
