If you have already e-filed or mailed your return, you cannot change it. The IRS may be able to stop it and mail you a check. If you do not want to do that, you can withdraw the money from the card and deposit it to your bank account.
To change or verify how you are receiving your refund, please follow the instructions below.
If you have not filed yet: To check how your refund is coming (or to change it if you haven't already filed or if you get rejected):
1. Open your return in TurboTax.
2. Click on “Take me to my return” if applicable.
3. Go to the “File” section in the left-hand menu.
4. Next to Step 2: Your refund info select “Revisit”. (Stop here if you're just checking.)
5. Choose your desired refund method and select Continue.
If you have already filed your taxes-
This information is printed right on your return.
You can confirm what account your refund is going to by viewing the 1040 Form.
You will see your bank account information on Lines 20 b,c & d of your Form 1040.
This information can also be found on your TurboTax Electronic Filing Instructions Page. If you did not print the instruction sheet, please follow these steps to print or view it:
· Sign back into your TurboTax Account Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click "Add a State" (You will not be adding a State, this is just a way to get you back into your tax return)
· Next select "Tax Tools" (left column) and then "Print Center"
· Select "Print, save, or preview this year's return"
· Check the box for your State return (this will open further options)
· Choose to include the "Government and TurboTax worksheets"
· Then click "View or Print Forms"
· View the "TurboTax Electronic Filing Instructions Page"
You can contact the IRS, to see if they can stop the deposit on the card and have a check mailed to you but they would not be able to change the bank information.
To contact the IRS call: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
After first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don’t enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Then press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
It should then transfer you to an agent.
If it was a state refund also, you would contact your state directly. Click on the link below and choose your state. This will take you directly to your state's website.
