Help Needed: Entering Quarterly W-2 Withholding on Form 2210 Line D

Hi all,

I'm using TurboTax to complete my taxes, and I've run into a bit of a snag with Form 2210 Line D. The system is asking me to enter the amount of federal income tax withheld quarterly, but it only provides three boxes for the entire year.

As a W-2 wage employee, I receive my withholding in Box 2 of the W-2 form. I'm wondering if I should just divide the total amount in Box 2 by four and enter that amount for each quarter?

If anyone has experience with this or can offer some guidance, I'd really appreciate it. TurboTax is also indicating that I might owe an underpayment penalty for 2023, which I wasn’t expecting.

Thanks in advance for your help.

No, you do not have to include W-2 Taxes on the estimated tax form.

  • If you are reporting estimated taxes that you paid, you do not have to include any tax paid on W-2 wages.
  • These tax withholdings are reported to the IRS already by your employer.

If you do actually write a check, or charge your bank account to pay the IRS, that amount will be posted to the Estimated Tax form. Estimated Taxes: Common Questions

Help Needed: Entering Quarterly W-2 Withholding on Form 2210 Line D

I have this problem every single year. It is a technical glitch in the form at TurboTax. It has nothing to do with my specific tax affairs. Every year I have called and have eventually gotten through to someone at TurboTax who can fix it. This year was different somehow. I phoned 7 times over a week and no-one could help me. The system would just automatically close the cases with no-one ever getting back to me.

I filed my taxes with TurboTax and will now have to refile manually. Really frustrating. I am trying to get a product refund.

The default is already to divide by 4.

Enter exact withholding per period only if it make a difference i.e reduces your penalty,

Otherwise, uncheck Option D.
