Hello I will be a first time user with turbo tax.. I have both W-2 form and 1099 (independent contractor) would i choose the self employed edition to file both ?

It depends if you have any business expenses related to the 1099 income.  If you do have business expenses that you can deduct to offset the 1099 income, then, yes, TurboTax Self-Employed is the product to use to file your tax return.  Note that you will include both the W-2 income and the 1099 income on your one tax return, no matter which version of TurboTax you use.   

If you do not have business expenses to deduct, then you could use the TurboTax Deluxe product.

It depends if you have any business expenses related to the 1099 income.  If you do have business expenses that you can deduct to offset the 1099 income, then, yes, TurboTax Self-Employed is the product to use to file your tax return.  Note that you will include both the W-2 income and the 1099 income on your one tax return, no matter which version of TurboTax you use.   

If you do not have business expenses to deduct, then you could use the TurboTax Deluxe product.
