It sounds like you qualify for the IRS Free File Program delivered by TurboTax . This program is geared towards lower-income filers, regardless of tax return complexity, and is only offered through the IRS Free File Alliance (FFA) program. No upgrades are available.
You would report your income as self-employed income on Schedule C. If you don't have any expenses to report you can use the Deluxe version of TurboTax Online. If you have expenses, you will have to use the Self-Employed version. To enter your self-employment income, once you have started your return, click on Search, and type in "Schedule C". Then click on "Jump to schedule c". The program will guide you through entering your income.
The thing is I would like to use TurboTax Deluxe or Self-Employed, but it doesn't make sense for me to pay $100-180 for an upgrade when all I made was $500. Are those the only options that I have
