Heads Up! You have a W2-C coming!

I've entered all our data, double checked the W-2 entries, and then this message about a W2-C comes up in TT 2020.  The screen says "since you deferred some of your Social Security taxes last year, you'll get a W-2c from your employer once you've repaid what you deferred."  There was no Social Security deferral!  I have no idea what TT is referring to.  The W2s show the correct SS tax withheld (6.2%) on the SS wages in box 3.   I have no idea why I'm getting this message.  Anyone have an idea?

Look at the actual values in boxes 3 & 4 of each of your W-2 forms...but look at them "In The Software Form " ....and give us those numbers for each W-2 you have.

then we'll test to see what the situation is.

IF you were in the military at the end of 2020, or possibly another US govt worker...then message may be valid as those were forced SS deferrals ordered by the President.

I only get one W-2 and this is for group life insurance imputed income for retirees. So box 3 has 2244.60 and box 4 is blank.  Then you have box 12 code M for uncollected SSA tax in the amount of 139.17 and box 12 code N for uncollected Medicare tax in the amount of 32.55.

On the W2 Summary form line 5 total is 2245, line 12h uncollected Medicare is 33 and 12i uncollected Social Security is 139.

Please let me know if you need additional data.

@mrb1llz

Yours is just another situation where notice may be showing up in-error.

I doubt they will be able to eliminate it for all the possible situations.

Folks who are not in the SS system at their job, they may also get the notice......improperly.  (A number of state teacher's retirement systems don't pay into SS either)

For you, as long as you entered all your W-2 data properly, just ignore the notice and move on.  The "notice" has absolutely no effect on your tax return.
