If one of you is 65 or older then the 1040SR is used; and it is not a mistake. The 1040 and 1040SR are IDENTICAL except that the SR has bigger type. The calculations and line numbers are exactly the same. Your refund or tax due is not affected in any way whatsoever.
However....you cannot file as Head of Household and claim your spouse as a dependent. You need to file a joint return. The standard deduction (the amount of your income that is "tax free" ) is higher on a joint return than if you filed as HOH. You cannot ever claim a spouse as a dependent.
You can file a joint return even if one spouse has little or no income.
@Whitewing66 Look at your 1040SR. What filing status does it show for you? Does it show that you are filing as married filing jointly? You want to make sure you filed a joint return and did not enter something incorrectly that has you filing as Head of Household. Entering your own name first on the tax return does not mean you filed Head of Household, if that is made you say that.
