If I contacted the dealer and they provided the incorrect information to the IRS, how do I correct this? The Schedule A Form 8936 they submitted has the year 2023 and not 2024 on it.
They sent me a corrected Schedule A Form 8936 that has 2024 on it but aren’t understanding the part of notifying the IRS.
Your best option is to keep the corrected Form 8936 Schedule A from the dealer for your records, and include a copy of that form with your mailed tax return.
Unless the dealer has the ability to make the change with the IRS, your return will continue to be rejected when you electronically file it.
