Getting an ip pin
Are you supposed to have a 6-digit IP PIN, which is an Identity Protection PIN provided by the IRS to certain victims of ID theft? Have you had one before? Did the IRS assign you one? If so, did you not get a letter in December or January with your IP PIN for this year?

Getting an ip pin
An Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) is a 6-digit number that the IRS gives taxpayers who were victims of tax-related identity theft. The IP PIN validates a Social Security number's true owner and prevents future tax fraud. Most taxpayers don't need one.
If the IRS issued you an IP PIN and you do not have CP01A letter they sent, you should be able to retrieve your IP PIN online at the IRS website by clicking here: https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/retrieve-your-ip-pin.
Once you have your IP PIN please follow these instructions to enter it in TurboTax:
· Login to your TurboTax Account
· Click "Take Me To My Return"
· Click "Search" in the upper right corner, then type "IP PIN" in the Search Box
· When the results populate, click the "Jump to Link"
· On the Identity Protection PIN screen type "Yes" and enter your IP PIN in the space provided
· If you need to remove the IP PIN, answer “No” instead.
· Select Continue.

We don't know what your situation is. See if this IRS article helps you. It also has a special IRS phone number listed where you can phone the IRS for assistance with IP PINs.

A current IP PIN (2019) is only good for any returns filed during calendar year 2019. In January people have to start using a new IP PIN for 2020 calendar year. The IRS typically postal mails the new IP PINs during December and January, so people should start getting their 2020 IP PINs soon.

IP PIN's are only issued by the IRS. If you submitted an Identity Theft report to the IRS then they should be sending you a new IP PIN for tax year 2019 in December or January.

IP PIN's are changed and issued to you each tax year by the IRS. You cannot use the same IP PIN that was used on the 2018 tax return for the 2019 tax return.
