Hello, wondering whether to go with Full Service or Expert Assist for filing this year.
My taxes are very straightforward (W2 & 1099s). However, in 2024 I accidentally over-contributed to my IRA and was in a rush when filing taxes last year so just paid the penalty and moved on. This year, I want to ensure any corrective action that's needed regarding that over-contribution is done and have everything sorted out so that going forward I can just do a backdoor roth every year.
Any opinions between the Full Service or Live Expert Assist? I don't mind paying as it'll likely be a one time thing, next year I'll continue to do my own taxes. I just need someone who knows their way around Roth/Traditional IRA rules and penalties.
Thanks in advance
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
If you have specific questions you would like to review with expert assistance, live expert assist may be the best option.
You can connect with a TurboTax Live expert directly from your return.
Go into the tax return.
1. Select Expert Help
2. Connect with Expert Help in the chat window to start a live session.
You’ll have the option to share your screen so the expert can review everything with you in real time. If you’re using the mobile app, you can access Expert Help there as well.
you can also post more details here and the other user experts here may be able to advise on your situation
Will either option (full service / expert assist) answer questions not strictly related to the 2025 IRS forms?
For example, if there's action I need to take with my actual IRA accounts like a withdrawal or something to square up my previous over-contribution.
Yes, Expert Assist and Full Service can help with your IRA over-contribution, but how they help depends on which service you choose.
TurboTax experts mainly work on your 2025 tax forms, but fixing an IRA over-contribution is part of what needs to be reported. They're expected to guide you on what steps to take outside of your tax return to make sure everything is accurate.
