Hi,
Reviewing Form 8880 on the PDF TurboTax generated for me before I submit the final version, I discovered that TurboTax only ran the calculations down the column for me, not for my spouse. It correctly brought in our information from my inputs in the app, but it did not do anything with hers or add it to mine like the instructions on the form say to do, resulting in a lower credit than what we should be getting.
Inputs show over $2000 in line 2 for me contributed into retirement accounts, and then on her side, a few hundred contributed into her ABLE account in line 1 (we'll call it $342). The form correctly takes mine into line 3, takes line 4 (empty) from it and fills in the total in line 5, then cuts it down to $2000 per the instructions, but it leaves lines 3 through 6 on her side blank. Line 7 should add line 6 from our two columns together, but hers wasn't filled so it just takes mine, resulting in a smaller base number from which to take a percentage as a credit in the next few lines, so we get a flat $200 credit instead of $234.
The amount of the shortage is relatively small compared to my total refund, but to move on I need to affirm that everything is true and correct to the best of my knowledge, which it isn't. Is this a problem in the TurboTax programming, and can it be fixed anytime soon?
