Form 5695

I'm running a final check on my Federal Return. I'm getting an error for a Joint Occupancy box regarding shared expenses. I've done the "interview" 4 times and I'm not answering anything regarding Joint Occupancy nor is there a box. I'm unable to file with this error.  In reviewing this forum, there seems to be several issues with this form and an update occurred on March 6, 2026...is this a new issue following this update? Not sure how to proceed.

If you are using desktop software you may need to do a manual update. Try clearing your Cache and Cookies and then try this link instructions.

If you are using the online software, Clear Cache and Cookies

Thank you. None of those ideas worked. It seems others are having the same issue. Unfortunately, I can't even file my state return until this error is corrected. I've attempted to make the change manually, and Line 25a won't allow me to make any changes at all. I'm about ready to print and mail the **bleep** thing.

Joint occupancy is only indicated when you shared the energy credit costs with someone NOT on your return.  I would suggest you Delete Form 5695, and step through the interview again to repopulate it properly.  If you're Married Filing Jointly, but live apart from your spouse, DON'T indicate that 'you lived in separate homes' in the interview.

After deleting the form, close the program, and clear Cache and Cookies before returning to the interview.

If this was the only error you had in REVIEW, try skipping the review and go directly to FILE.
