Force TurboTax to file Married Couple Separately, not joint

So sorry.   She DOES get a W-2.   I know I wrote that wrong above.  She's an employee of a company full-time.

She is NOT self employed.

Then none of the home offices expenses are deductible under new tax law

Then I would recommend reviewing filing joint - it is probably more effective that way (at least for 96% of married couples)

The user who posted that question that involved the expenses for a home office said the spouse with the home office was a W-2 employee.  Per the new tax law, W-2 employees cannot deduct job-related expenses (including home office) on their federal returns.

If the home office was for an independent contractor--someone who is self-employed-- then it would be different.  Then the home office expenses would be included on the schedule C they prepared for all of their self-employment expenses.

If you want to know how to compare a return on which you and your spouse file jointly with separate returns for each of you, please see the TurboTax Help article How can we compare married filing jointly with married filing separately? for guidance.
