I have used TurboTax for decades and have what I think is a TurboTax bug with the amended return process, which is preventing correct filing of an amended return and I need advise on how to proceed
I need to make a very simple one line amendment to our 2023 return using Desktop Windows Deluxe. When I open the previously saved 2023 TurboTax file, the amounts are correct and match the saved pdf file used to print the original return. If I go to forms view all of the form amounts are correct, and if I try to regenerate a new pdf file all amounts in the new return file are correct.
However, once I click "Other Tax Forms -> Amend a return" TurboTax changes its saved 1040-X Original Amounts for the original return. If I generate a new return the 1040-X form has changed/incorrect amounts in the "Original Amounts" column, while the "Correct Amounts" column contains the correct/original amounts from the original return since I have not entered any changes yet.
At that point if I make the one line amendment needed the final tax amounts are correct and the Correct Amounts on 1040-X are correct, however the Original Amounts column on 1040-X are incorrect. So I have a correct final tax form from TurboTax, but I cannot file it because the 1040-X form is wrong.
Does anyone have advise on how to best proceed? Can I simply create a new correct tax return with TurboTax but manually create a correct 1040-X by hand or are there problems with doing this? Also, does TurboTax have customer support to investigate and fix software problems (if so I could not find it).
Thank you
