For 1099-INT, Turbotax is asking who the interest belongs to (me, my wife or both of us). How does it matter?

If the account that pays interest is a joint account, mark it as "both of us". Else mark it according to the actual ownership.

It doesn't matter unless you're Married Filing Separately and/or in a community property state.
