Filling out W4 to not owe taxes

We are married filing jointly and always pay $3000-$5000 at the end of the year.  How do we fill this out to not owe at the end?

Annual Salaries:

Susan - $54,000 (contribute 10% to 401k)

Paul - $175,000 (contribute 15% to 401K)

We have 2 dependents aged 17 and 21

Please let me know what other information you need.

Thank you

Filling out W4 to not owe taxes

Hi, @SCZ3 ! As a general rule, you should both fill out Step 2 on the W-4 form, which relates to "Working Spouses". However, only one of you should fill out Step 3, "Claiming Dependents", and that should probably be Paul, with the higher income. However, if you have already done that and are still not getting the desired result, then perhaps one or both of you should request additional withholding from each paycheck, using Step 4, item (c). Simply take the $3,000-$5,000 you're generally owing, divide it by the number of pay periods in the year, then request that amount as additional withholding. You could do that on either job, or split it among both jobs. Hope this helps!
